FreeCon

In the underground society of Roleplay, Gaming consoles and Graphic novels there stands shining oasis of freedom and brotherhood. Where one must subdue the urge to "Fangirl" or "geek out" in everyday society, conventions provide a safe haven for the imaginatively eccentric. Conventions are a place for people to be themselves in all their unique beauty.
To date, my Day long excursion at FreeCon has been the most exciting and livid experience of my young life. My very first taste of FreeCon came walking down the street wearing a bright orange wig, a pink and purple Cheshire cat costume, and carried a giant pink bunny. My good friend Brittany proceeded to squeal and dance at the sight of my awe struck face. She was cosplaying as a character from "Ouran High School Host Club" who apparently in an episode of the anime dressed as the Cheshire cat. Unfortunately having been unprepared for the Con I hadn't had the time to create a cosplay of my own, but that did not damper the mood in the slightest.
We then proceeded to joyously trek up the very steep steps that led to the Convention building. Soon we would be joined by other friends of ours who shared our same enthusiasm for Anime, Manga and eastern culture. The building was filled to the brim with people young and old, parents, siblings and couples alike packed into a single floor to peruse the FreeCon Shop, Play Anime themed jeopardy games, and compete in art challenges. Our first stop was the little store that the convention administrators had set up in a small empty room. Venders sold Japanese sodas and Candies, Figurines and Badges. It was a glorious mess of Pachinko, 64 games, J-pop magazines…and bubbles? Yes, standing guard, atop a photo booth, a machine rained bubbles on all who entered. Buzzing on pocky and Fruity Sodas we stood and watched as the ever Hyper Bronwyn fought a losing battle with the invasive suds. Flailing and kicking and squealing she fought to exterminate her floating pursuers.
After physically dragging her away from the battle field we proceeded to the artist alley, which in all honesty was actually just a room. Lining the walls were tables each manned with an artist looking to sell their trade. Commissions were cheap and the artists were skilled, I scanned the tables eagerly, taking up conversation on techniques and mediums with these, my artistic kin.   After being commissioned a mild shounen-ai picture, an artist made the comment that she had been previously commissioned to draw hentai by some very young girls. This she said, resulted in her new demands to see IDs for any pornographic commissions; this comment leaving several surrounding youths giggling.
Of all the Multi-colored spectacles, the bilingual Fangirl squeals, and that incident with the Rurouni Kenshin Cosplayer, there was one thing that finished the day, The Cosplay Contest. Competitors ranged from Ninjas, The embodiment of Crystal Meth, Pokémon, kuroshitsuji Cosplays, and don't forget the Red Headed Cheshire Cat. There were shouts, and laughter, jokes and dances and applause, skankicorns, warriors, and Soul Reapers. Only god knows what will transpire at this year's Freecon Event.
